Personnel Today article

Nice article in Personnel Today about Storytelling as a tool to create emotional buy-in for training and development departments.  Well, we’re not exactly a ‘training company’, but they’re right in explaining why this approach is so powerful.  This topic is becoming ever-more prevalent in business circles, and for good reason…

Very nice article. Imagine..the left and right sides of the brain working together. I had two very separate conversations today about this very topic with two very different people. Brought up on their own accord. Well at the end of my working day I started researching some of our topic of discussions.

In the article there is a link to a past article of May ‘06 whereby a comment is made that I near fell off my chair thinking lightening struck! Here is the exact quote:
“Employers are also beginning to realise that experiential learning - learning by doing, reflection and real-world application - has a far greater value than simply sitting in a classroom.”

Back in the day we called that “street smarts”

This is very encouraging and engaging.

As I write this I had another comment come in from a respected friend of mine as I sent him a note regarding this concept. Not that it matters but I get a kick out of this every time I see it…he is the CEO of a Communications Firm. His card reads: [Chief Enthusiasm Officer] He also teaches at the University- Go figure eh!: (I asked him about his thoughts and if he had ever read the book “Feel the Fear and Do it Anyways.”

“I have read the book many years ago and it was absolutely critical in terms of my career as a entrepreneur. I re read sections of it ever 2 yrs it seems. The quote about courage versus fear on my profile is connected to that whole concept. I encourage myself to use fear as a propellant towards something like a goal or an objective….and not a paralytic like Bambi in the headlights. Another good book along the same lines is “Repack Your Bags”

    Regards,
