This is a story of a poor man in Glasgow who needed to feed his family. He hit on the idea of using his meagre savings to buy a crate of oranges to sell outside the football ground.
He sold every orange and doubled his money. Next week, he came back with two crates, and again doubled his money. The third week, someone offered him a shilling to buy an empty crate, so that he could stand on it to watch the match over the heads of the other spectators. Our entrepreneur sold the other three crates once the oranges had been sold.
After the match, he then went into the ground and collected up the four crates, now in a sorry state. He broke them up, and sold the firewood to a few departing fans.
